Hi, I’m Timm. I founded zipmend in 2015. Prior to that, I spent 10 years working as a consultant for logistics companies. I obtained my diploma in business administration at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. I am happy whenever we are able to help our customers in tricky situations. In my spare time, I like to watch basketball, jog and take care of my vodka collection.

Hello, my name is Andrew. I’m originally from the UK and have a bachelor’s degree in Germanic studies. I am a dispatcher out of passion and always have on ear on the phone – maybe we will talk to each other soon. In my free time, I take flying lessons and fly through the air on small-engined aircraft. My goal is to obtain a pilot’s license and later maybe my own small plane.

The company

In the founders' living room and with three interns on board, the starting shot for zipmend is fired at the beginning of 2016. The initial focus is on developing the price calculator and the online booking process. The goal is to be able to offer customers a quick and easy solution to problems in stressful situations. After about a year of development, the software is ready for live operation and zipmend.com goes online.

At the end of 2017, zipmend moves into its first real office near Hamburg's central station. The existing software is enhanced with an interface for transport partners and different vehicle categories are introduced. This makes it easier to process orders both for us and for our customers.

Almost three years later, the company moves to a new, larger location. With the move to Afrikahaus, located in the heart of Hamburg, there is a technical upgrade for the transport management as well as a switch of our frontend to Vue.js. There is also a lot going on with the staff, as the team is increased to 22 employees. In addition to the business already underway, the product is now being made ready for launch in the French and Benelux markets.

In January 2022, the expansion continues: The office is moved to the third floor of the Afrikahaus to create even more space for new employees. A few months later, the team has already grown to 37 employees and is becoming even more efficient by building a modern tool landscape. We are working flat out to make zipmend one of the biggest digital players in the express delivery sector.
