Online booking for transports: How zipmend put an end to the price ping-pong

When Timm Trede founded the Hamburg-based start-up zipmend in 2015, he had a clear objective: no more endless email chains, opaque pricing and radio silence in transport handling. "No price ping-pong by email. No ghosting. That was my resolution when I founded my own logistics company," says Trede. From this commitment to building the most user-friendly online booking process in the industry, zipmend Express was born.

Online booking with zipmend is remarkably straightforward: customers calculate their transport price themselves, directly on the website. Distance, vehicle type and preferred time window are computed in seconds. This eliminates the enquiries and waiting times that many dispatch managers know all too well from their day-to-day operations.

But zipmend goes further still: after booking, the team automatically verifies whether delivery addresses are accessible, contacts are available and special requirements have been accounted for. "When you book with us, the delivery actually gets delivered. And if problems arise? You won't be ghosted. We provide regular updates and keep you in the loop," says Trede.

The idea came to Trede from hands-on experience: as a former logistics consultant, he witnessed how inefficient the order processes of many carriers were — particularly for time-critical shipments. "We wanted to demonstrate that even in express logistics, digitalisation and genuine service can go hand in hand," he says in retrospect. As the positive customer reviews and over 60,000 shipments delivered per year confirm, they have succeeded.
